USS Hoyt S Vandenberg
Another artificial reef is underway in Florida with the 160 m long second world war missile tracking ship USS Hoyt S Vandenberg scheduled to be scuttled early 2009. She will join the USS Oriskany and USS Spiegel Grove as unique attraction for divers visiting Florida.
Wreck scuttling is extremely important for dive industries since they generate not only the wreck and the dive site but also massive publicity which can, in some instances, affect the whole industry. One of the best examples is the scuttling of the Um el Faroud which has helped to revitalise the whole dive industry in Malta.
