The dive site ranking system

Independent Scuba uses a ranking system which goes from 1 to 5. The different numbers mean:

1 – A training dive.

2 – A descent dive which may be good as a night dive or for specific activities such as macro photography or other specialised activities.

3 – A good dive. Here you can find some specific features unique to the site. May also be a dive which can be excellent but with such changing conditions to it is difficult to predict the enjoyment of the dive.

4 – A very good dive. Distinct features and reliable conditions.  High and even dive quality.

5 – A superb dive. Very distinct and unique features. Reliable conditions.

In addition to this there is a final level which is very rare – Platinum. A platinum dive is a dive which in itself is worth a trip. There are not too many dives like this on the planet so this level is rarely awarded to any dive site.
